La Fiesta - A Party Planning Application
The main aim was to create a party planning application which Step by step helps users to plan all elements of their choice for the event and helps users get in contact and chat with People organising the event eg; Venue organising people, decoration vendors etc.
Jan 2019 - Feb 2019

Problem Statement
Planning events can be overwhelming and time-consuming, often lacking a structured approach. The goal is to develop an application that simplifies the process by providing users with a step-by-step guide, streamlining event planning and making it more manageable.

Methods Followed
User Research, Personas, Perceptual Mapping, User Flows, Information Architecture, Wireframing, Prototyping.

Research Summary
What we did?
User study:
A survey with 25 respondents and interviews with 5-10 users explored how parties are typically planned, challenges faced, and the need for external help. Users also shared desired features for a party planning application.
Holding events
majority of the users often held
events or small get togethers.
majority also often held birthday
parties, anniversaries at their houses.
Problems faced
Deciding the venue
They want to attend to people but aren't able
Users generally look for new ideas, New
concept, New themes to implement we come
up with idea but then lack of resources and
availability of the things.
Majority of the users needed other people's
assistance while holding an event for
example; whom to contact to get certain
supplies for an event.
Felt tedious talking to different vendors and
going place to place until you can find the
suitable ones for your event.
Connectivity issues Cannot call everyone;
Have to spend lot of time contacting people,
sending messages and reminders.
What features to be included
Venue, menu, event
Name, address, contact no. ,detail
information about product , Ratecard ,
availability etc
Contact details of nearby vendors, user
reviews and ratings.
Themes and availability of Resources
required for it
All information about cakes, party venue,
menu all
Sending reminders to the participants;
Anything more interesting than the usual
ones.
Good theme, unique
Perceptual Mapping:
Perceptual map was made to understand where the competitors stand in the market with respect to the features they provide. This helped to understand the unexplored areas which is the one on the top left side in which the application provides more planning features and Is compatible for all types of events.

Here provides more planning features and components means that the application/website provides planning components such as selecting type of occasion, time venue, connect with the vendors, and also provide invites and reminders for people for the event.
Compatible for planning all types of events means open to planning all types of events such as birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, personal milestones or get-togethers.

What I learned from these methods?
User studies taught me to gather valuable insights into user needs, behaviours, and pain points, helping to create user-centered solutions.
Perceptual mapping enhanced my ability to visualise user preferences, identify market gaps, and position products effectively, driving informed design decisions.

Wireframes

Design System
Post wireframing the next step was to construct the style guide for the high fidelity prototyping.

High-Fidelity Prototyping
Sign up screens and home page.

Start planning and filling in details like type of venue, number of people and type of occasion

Details like selecting a location were also added based on the type of venue selected
An option of selecting a catering service from restaurants who offer catering is also given.

Users can also send invites for the event to other people, they can either use current customized one of make it from scratch and add necessary elements. Apart from that users can also chat with vendors such as the caterer, decoration vendor or any other ones selected.

Key Learnings
Key learnings included user research methods to identify user needs and design solutions from scratch. Perceptual mapping provided insights into competitors' features and inclusivity.
User flows and information architecture helped map detailed steps users take in event planning, guiding the app's development.
